In April, American Legion Post #23 in Baileyville received the second of four annual donations from Downeast Credit Union.

According to Norm Richard, that donation was the second $1,000 check to Post 23 of the $4,000 committed by the credit union.

This particular donation will be used specifically for the post’s required insurance and building repairs, Richard explained.  “It tremendously helps us, especially with our insurance,” he said, which is one of the post’s largest expenses.

And, by carrying the proper insurance on the building, it makes the building available for other uses, as well.   “It also gives the Auxiliary a place to have beano, so they have it at the Legion building every Tuesday night,” Richard said.

Downeast Credit Union’s Assistant Branch Manager Rusti Knights acknowledged the commitment American Legion Post 23 and the men who make up its membership have had to Downeast Credit Union.  “These men have been committed to the credit union for years and we have a great relationship with them.  It’s nice to know that we can give back to them because they have supported us over the years.”

Regional Branch Manager Joanne Cushing echoed the remarks of Knights.  Cushing added that historically, Downeast Credit Union has been involved in giving back to the community whenever possible, and she is happy to be able to help and is appreciative of American Legion Post 23 and its members.

Post 23 has been busy with fundraisers, raffling off an ice auger last fall, won by Chester McCray, and most recently, raffling off a 16’ canoe, won by Frank Crosby.  Next, the men will be hosting a road toll on Thursday, May 13.
