Downeast Credit Union (DECU) and Downeast Insurance (DEI) hosted a Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on September 27 at their new location on 460 Wilson Street, Suite 1 in Brewer. The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony involved DECU & DEI Board and Team Members, the Brewer Mayor, Michele LaBree Daniels, City Councilors, the Brewer Economic Development Team, and landlord Rick Harnum.

Downeast Credit Union moved from 24 Springer Drive in Bangor to its new location at 460 Wilson Street in Brewer on August 29. Both locations are owned by Rick Harnum of Harnum Holdings, who allowed the credit union to build the new space to suit as our Team made the move from Bangor to Brewer. The project began in 2019 with a market analysis by Bancography, a real estate search with Harnum Holdings, project design by TAC Architectural Group and construction by E.W. Littlefield. Signage was completed by Sign Services of Maine and furniture by Exterus. The completed project includes a 2-lane drive-thru, interior ATM, large conference room space, 2 expert care offices for new accounts and loans and a welcoming lobby.

“Downeast is proud to be a part of the Brewer community,” stated Tonia Lanier, SVP Lending and Branch Operations at the Ribbon Cutting ceremony. “Founded in 1941, Downeast Credit Union has grown our footprint from the original charter of one location serving mill employees in Baileyville, to now serving eight geographical locations and over 22,000 members. This gives us a strong foundation to support more of the community and serve our passion of helping members of modest means.”

Downeast Credit Union strives to offer competitive lending and deposit rates in a convenient and down-to-earth manner. They offer programs to educate and help members rebuild credit. Downeast is committed to investing in new technologies that make banking effortless, giving members more time for family and fun. Their friendly team members and insurance agents are skilled in developing individualized plans to help members succeed in the financial journey of life.

The People Helping People philosophy was the cornerstone of the credit union’s charter and that still rings true today, 81 years later, as DECU remains committed to serving the hard-working people of our region.

DECU branch manager Jessica Raymond added, “Our Brewer Team, Beverly, Dustin, Katie, Kristen and I, all look forward to serving the financial needs of our new Brewer community.”

Members and those inquiring about membership of the Credit Union, as well as clients of the Insurance Agency, are all invited to visit the new space at 460 Wilson Street, Suite 1 in Brewer. DECU is committed to enhancing the wealth of its members and the communities they serve. Follow DECU on Facebook at www.Facebook.com/DowneastCU or learn more at www.downeastcu.com/brewer.
